Job Summary
The EC&I Technician will be part of a team of 12 within the maintenance department. The responsibilities include maintenance, testing, calibration, fault-finding and installation of the plants instrumentation, controls, and electrical/electronic systems to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient operation. This role is worked on a Monday-Sunday rotating day shift pattern. Overtime and emergency callouts may be required in order to meet operational demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain, calibrate, test, install, fault find and repair the site’s instrumentation, control, and electrical equipment.
- Perform maintenance and fault finding on cranes, motors, HV electrical equipment, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor operated valves.
- Perform maintenance and fault finding on backup power equipment, process controls, PLC/DCS, protection systems, water chemistry and emissions monitoring equipment.
- Perform routine preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on the listed equipment, coordinating and working with other members of the team.
- Design and install new equipment and/or implement system modifications by understanding and following the requirements of a Management of Change process.
- Use the sites maintenance management system and IT systems to raise and close work orders, populate logs and maintenance records, send emails, write maintenance procedures, Risk Assessments, and complete training.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes and raise purchase requests for materials, parts, and spares to be able to carry out maintenance activities.
- Assist the site EC&I Engineer in management of the calibration records, maintenance reports and the work bank using IT systems.
- Supervise & co-ordinate external contract suppliers during their routine maintenance and call out visits
- Follow and implement safe working practices, safe systems of work and help identify any safety hazards and propose solutions.
- Follows all environmental compliance work practices, identifying any environmental non-compliance problems and assisting in implementing solutions.
- Respond, within a reasonable time to any emergency callouts and provide shift cover as directed by the EC&I Engineer.
- Attend meetings as required and assist the EC&I Engineer in planning, preparation, and implementation of plant shutdowns.
- Assist other team members and work with all departments to support the plant in achieving its performance goals.
- Performs any ad-hoc operational or housekeeping tasks as assigned by the EC&I Engineer or Maintenance manager.
- Display a level of flexibility to support the business outside of normal working hours or during busy periods.
Qualifications & Experience
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
- NC/ND qualified in Electrical/Electronic engineering or a similar equivalent.
- Completed a minimum of 3 years’ experience maintaining industrial Instrumentation, controls and electrical equipment gained within power generation, renewable energy, or another similarly related industry.
- The applicant must have and be able to demonstrate, an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation and Electrical principles.
- An HNC/HND qualification in Electrical/Electronic engineering or other relevant discipline is preferable but not essential.
- IOSH Working Safely or comparable qualification would be preferable but not essential.
Competencies
- Demonstrate strong knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical equipment.
- Have an understanding of PLCs and or DCS systems, their architecture, and operating principles.
- Demonstrate a good level of IT literacy, have a good understanding of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and use the sites software applications to perform job related duties.
- Have a strong ability to interpret technical drawings, diagrams, technical documents, and specifications.
- Have a positive, enthusiastic attitude towards problem solving, displaying a practical approach to finding solutions.
- Must have a proactive and positive approach to health and safety in the workplace.
- Be able to work well within a team and be a key team player.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good maths skills.

Work Environment
The normal workplace for this role is on site. Please note due to the nature of the role there is no possibility to be able to work from home. - Provide shift rota cover as required to ensure continuous operation of the plant (including weekends and public holidays).
- May be required to work overtime and attend emergency callouts in order to meet operational demands.
- The role, at times will require physical exertion so a respectable level of mobility and fitness is required.
- Respectable levels of hand-eye co ordination and dexterity will be required to carry out the role.
- Will be exposed to working at height on grated flooring and vertical ladders.
- Likely to be exposed to physical occupational and environmental risks associated with heavy industry.
