Today enfinium, a leading UK energy from waste operator, proudly shares that apprentice Stanley McIntyre has been named the Energy from Waste Industry Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious Energy & Utility Conference and Skills Awards 2025.
Since 2022, enfinium’s dedicated 3-year apprenticeship programme has welcomed a cohort of 10 next-generation engineers and technicians – combining academic study, practical workshop training, and operational ‘on-the-job’ experience.
The Energy & Utility Skills award recognises an outstanding individual undertaking an apprenticeship (at any level) in the Energy from Waste sector whose achievements and passion have inspired others.
Stanley started his apprenticeship with enfinium in 2023 and is based full-time at the enfinium Kemsley site in Kent. Following the successful completion of their apprenticeship, Stanley will become a full-time employee within the enfinium Kemsley team.
Tom Darby, Chief People Officer at enfinium, said “We believe our apprenticeship programme is a unique opportunity to welcome new and diverse talent to the business and the wider sector, regardless of career stage. An enfinium apprenticeship not only develops technical engineering skills but provides a different employment pathway for recruits, as well as enabling them with skills for life.”
Stanley McIntyre, apprentice at enfinium, said “Thank you to all my colleagues at enfinium for the opportunity to take part in the apprenticeship programme. I’ve learnt so much in the past few years and have seen the importance of learning directly from colleagues and how to navigate real challenges onsite at a working energy from waste plant.”
The Energy & Utility Skills Awards are an annual awards events that celebrate the outstanding individuals and organisations that are shaping the future of the energy industry, with this year’s event taking place in Birmingham.

About enfinium
enfinium is a leading UK energy from waste operator with four operational sites in the UK, in West Yorkshire, Kent and Flintshire, and two in construction. enfinium diverts 2.3 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from climate-damaging landfill, putting it to good use by turning it into home grown energy, enough to power 500,000 UK homes. enfinium’s ambition is to transform its facilities into local ‘decarbonisation hubs’ powered by the millions of tonnes of unrecyclable waste the UK will produce for decades to come. Using existing energy from waste infrastructure, enfinium could contribute to heat networks, produce electrolytic hydrogen, or use carbon capture technology to provide durable, high quality carbon removals which will be critical for the UK to achieve net zero by 2050.
