enfinium donates £6,000 to launch interactive sustainability exhibit with life skills education charity DangerPoint

November 21, 2024 | News Releases

Life skills education charity DangerPoint (PentrePeryglon) has launched an interactive exhibit to teach children the importance of sustainable living, thanks to support from leading UK energy-from-waste operator enfinium.

DangerPoint is an independent charity that serves to educate visitors on safety lessons and life skills through experiential learning at its safety activity centre in Talacre, North Wales. Funding from the nearby enfinium Parc Adfer facility in Deeside, North Wales has helped relaunch an exhibit aimed at educating children on the importance of and ability to practice sustainability.

The “Sustainable Futures” or “Dyfodol Cynaliadwy” exhibit is designed to educate young children on sustainability fundamentals, including introducing them to the concepts of reduce, reuse and recycle, and why they matter. The design of the interactive educational exhibit was inspired by the DangerPoint team’s visit to enfinium Philanthropic Community Fund own educational visitor centre, which aims to promote an understanding of the waste hierarchy.

The £6,000 exhibit funding has been awarded as part of a £30,000 enfinium Philanthropic Community Fund for organisations and community groups in England and Wales.

Julie Ann Tyler, Centre Manager, DangerPoint, said: “We are very excited that we could update and improve our Sustainable Futures exhibit thanks to enfinium’s funding. The new displays provide a fun and engaging educational experience for visitors to learn about the importance of sustainable living and the role they can play in building a sustainable future. We are thrilled to have such an exciting addition to our visitor centre for the local community to enjoy.”

David Cottis, Plant Manager, enfinium Parc Adfer, said: “DangerPoint plays an important role helping visitors learn crucial skills in a unique and interactive setting. We are delighted to have contributed to the revitalised Sustainable Futures exhibit, supporting an initiative that introduces sustainability concepts early and helping empower young minds to understand the role they can plan in protecting the planet.”

Applications to enfinium’s Philanthropic Community Fund are open and will be accepted from projects or organisations that will directly benefit the communities neighbouring facility sites. Organisations who are based outside of this area are also eligible to apply for grants, as long as they can prove how the award of funding will have a beneficial impact on these communities. Applications are welcomed from registered charities, schools, places of learning, not-for-profit companies, community organisations and groups.

All applications must demonstrate that the project or event in question will either deliver environmental benefits (such as the promotion of clean energy, waste reduction and / or recycling improvements), improve standards of health, safety and wellbeing or enhance the wider community. This could mean promoting skills and educational development, environmental improvements or activity that helps boost community cohesion. Application criteria and application forms can be downloaded from the project website: https://enfinium.co.uk/facilities/parc-adfer/. For more information, please email parcadfer@enfinium.co.uk.

About enfinium

enfinium is a leading UK energy from waste operator with four operational sites in the UK, in West Yorkshire, Kent and Flintshire, and two in construction. enfinium diverts 2.3 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from climate-damaging landfill, putting it to good use by turning it into home grown energy, enough to power 500,000 UK homes. enfinium’s ambition is to transform its facilities into local ‘decarbonisation hubs’ powered by the millions of tonnes of unrecyclable waste the UK will produce for decades to come. Using existing energy from waste infrastructure, enfinium could contribute to heat networks, produce electrolytic hydrogen, or use carbon capture technology to provide durable, high quality carbon removals which will be critical for the UK to achieve net zero by 2050.
