enfinium and Ellgia sign new waste supply agreement

August 16, 2023 | News Releases

FERRYBRIDGE, United Kingdom (August 16, 2023) enfinium Ferrybridge 1 and 2 energy from waste facilities in Yorkshire are pleased to announce a new refuse derived fuel (RDF) waste supply agreement with Ellgia.

enfinium Ferrybridge 1 and 2 facilities process up to 1.45m tonnes of residual waste per annum. Operating as decarbonisation hubs, they use this waste to generate up to 170MW (gross) of electricity to the National Grid, which is equivalent to the needs of 370,000 UK homes and businesses.

Ellgia is an independent waste and recycling company based across the East of England and has worked with enfinium since 2016, signing an anchor contract with Ferrybridge 1 and 2 facilities in January 2021.

Under the new agreement, Ellgia will extend its existing supply contract by a further five years and more than double its supply volume when enfinium’s new Skelton Grange energy from waste facility enters commercial operation in 2025.

Jack Lavington, Managing Director for Ellgia, said “We are absolutely delighted to be able to increase and extend our partnership with enfinium. The new supply agreement allows us to expand our zero to landfill solutions and provide long term stability for the future. I would like to offer my thanks to all those involved within both organisations who have worked tirelessly over the past 7 years in developing this collaborative and partnership approach”.

Mike Maudsley, CEO for enfinium, said “Together, our Ferrybridge 1 and 2 facilities are the single largest energy from waste site in the UK, transforming non-recyclable waste into homegrown energy to power nearly 370,000 UK homes and businesses every year. We look forward to working with Ellgia to continue the vital work that energy from waste plays in decarbonising the UK”.
