enfinium awards over £6,000 to North Wales Repair Cafés

August 19, 2026 | Community Engagement, News Releases

enfinium, a leading UK energy from waste operator, has awarded more than £6,000 to six Repair Cafés across North Wales, helping them expand volunteer-led repair services that reduce waste, save residents money and promote reuse. The grant funding has been allocated to Abergele Repair Café, Towyn and Kinmel Bay Town Council Repair Café, Town Hall Flint Repair Café, Welshpool Repair Café, Hwb Caergwrle Repair Café and Caernarfon Repair Café, all situated near enfinium’s Parc Adfer facility in Deeside.

Repair Cafés play an important role in supporting local communities by offering free repair services for a wide range of household items, including electrical goods, textiles, furniture, bicycles and small appliances. In addition to reducing waste, they help people save money, learn practical repair skills and connect with volunteers who share a passion for sustainability.

The funding will help the six Repair Cafés purchase new tools and equipment, recruit and train volunteers and improve community outreach. Together, these improvements will enable the cafés to repair more items, support more local residents and continue promoting a culture of repair and reuse across North Wales.

Since the Repair Café Support Fund launched in March 2024, enfinium has provided more than £55,000 in funding to local Repair Cafés, helping communities repair and reuse thousands of items that might otherwise have been thrown away. By keeping products in use for longer, the fund helps Cafés to divert waste from landfill.

As the operator of Parc Adfer, which manages unrecyclable waste for five North Wales councils, enfinium supports initiatives that help reduce waste before it enters the waste stream.. Supporting Repair Cafés forms part of enfinium’s wider commitment to the communities served by the facility, helping reduce waste, promote the circular economy and support local residents.

Philip Curds, Head of ESG & Sustainability at enfinium, said: “Repair Cafés are powered by volunteers whose skills, enthusiasm and commitment make a real difference in their communities. Every item repaired is one less item wasted but these cafés also create places where people can learn new skills, share knowledge and help one another. We’re proud to support six Repair Cafés across North Wales as they continue to grow their impact and inspire more people to choose repair over replacement.”

Katherine Evans, Organiser at the Abergele Repair Café, said: “The grant from enfinium has enabled our Repair Café to continue for another year, giving residents access to free repair sessions, helping reduce waste and bringing together people with shared interests. Without this support, none of it would have been possible.”

About enfinium

enfinium is a leading UK energy from waste operator with five operational sites in the UK, in West Yorkshire, Kent and Flintshire, and one in construction. enfinium diverts 2.7 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste from climate-damaging landfill, putting it to good use by turning it into home grown energy, enough to power 600,000 UK homes. enfinium’s ambition is to transform its facilities into local ‘decarbonisation hubs’ powered by the millions of tonnes of unrecyclable waste the UK will produce for decades to come. Using existing energy from waste infrastructure, enfinium could contribute to heat networks, produce electrolytic hydrogen, or use carbon capture technology to provide durable, high quality carbon removals which will be critical for the UK to achieve net zero by 2050.
