Achieves net carbon savings of 498,382 tonnes, significant increases in steam generation to DS Smith paper mill and ’highly commended’ award by RoSPA

LONDON, United Kingdom

enfinium today releases its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report for 2022 entitled New Horizons. It sets out the business’s progress against a range of ambitions to deliver on its goal of building more sustainable, diverse and equitable local communities in the UK.

Highlights of the report included:

  • Avoided carbon emissions of 498,382 tCO2e* achieved through diversion of waste from landfill, electricity generation, industrial heat offtake, metals recovery and materials recycling.
  • More than doubling of steam supply to 432,413 tonnes (2021: 201,735) significantly reducing the natural gas usage of our offtake partner, the paper mill operator, DS Smith.
  • For the first time awarded the ‘Highly Commended’ award in the waste management and recycling industry sector by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The report also highlights the business’s intentions regarding biodiversity. These include new biodiversity assessments at all sites, including annual habitat condition surveys, completed by independent ecologists, as well as external noise monitoring and daily checks of habitat conditions.

Mike Maudsley, CEO, enfinium said:

“ESG isn’t a bolt on to our strategy at enfinium, it is our business strategy. This new report shows the remarkable progress we have made across a number of critical areas thanks to the enthusiasm of our people and support of our many stakeholders.

The report is clear evidence of the commitment to transparency and accountability that underpins all of our work at enfinium, from pursuing opportunities around the transition to a low-carbon economy to investing in underserved local communities.”
