Engineering Technician Apprentice – Parc Adfer

What we are looking for

We are seeking an Engineering Technician Apprentice to join our team and play a crucial part of our continued success and sustained growth of enfinium in the UK, and in preserving our environment for future generations whilst providing for today’s energy needs.

The Apprentice Engineering Technician will participate in a 42-month apprenticeship program where you will be working within the maintenance and engineering teams, playing an integral part in ensuring that enfinium delivers best in class environmental, health and safety and operational performance, whilst training towards an Advanced Level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

What you will be doing

Working alongside the maintenance and engineering teams and following guidance and instruction from your mentor, skilled engineers, and technicians, you will be responsible for:

  • Fault finding diagnostics, reporting findings and supporting with resolving facility defects.
  • Installation of new equipment
  • Reactive, planned and preventive maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient operation of the EFW facility
  • Ensure that all activities are completed in a safe manner in line with local site and enfinium health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Risk assessments and method statements to ensure activities are always completed in a safe manner.
  • Maintaining equipment such as cranes, rotating plant, weighbridge, fans and motors
  • Responsible for cleanliness of the workspace and workshops
  • As you advance through the apprenticeship training modules and prove competence through assessment and work activities, more duties and responsibilities will be afforded to you.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on Engineering projects at our other three operating facilities in the UK.

Training to be provided

  • Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard
  • Company Training Plan
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Foundation Competence. (Delivered full time at Warwick College in Year 1)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Development Knowledge (Delivered via block release at Warwick College in Year 2 and 3)  
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering – Development Competence (Delivered in the workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills – Maths (if required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills – English (if required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship

What you will bring

  • A minimum of five GCSE’s (or equivalent qualifications) at grade C (Grade 4-9) and above including English, Science and Maths.
  • Higher level qualifications would be an advantage.
  • A full UK driving license and the use of a car would also be advantageous.

Things to consider

This is a 42-month program which includes funding your accommodation (whilst attending college), uniform and travel costs. The first year of the course will be spent living (weekdays) and studying at Warwick College, with Year 2 on block release to Warwick College alongside working on site. Your final year will be delivered on site at our Parc Adfer facility in Flintshire, North Wales. As you advance through the apprenticeship training modules and prove competence through assessment and work activities, more duties and responsibilities will be afforded to you. This is an Engineering role in an Energy from Waste facility where you will be working in a Plant environment, being exposed to elements such as working from height, areas of elevated noise and temperature, some confined spaces, rotating machinery, dust, odours and open grated flooring up to a level of 45 meters.

Future prospects

Potential for progression into a full time Engineering Technician role at one of enfinium’s operating facilities, specialising in either Instrumentation & Control, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. With continued support from enfinium, your future career path can lead to Engineering Degree qualification and be an Engineer of the future at enfinium. Following that, the career path is to progress to EC&I Engineer, overseeing all EC&I Technicians and works on site.
